NACHTEN VAN DE POWEZIESinds een zevental jaren, organiseren wij samen met vele lieve vrijwilligers Nachten van de Powezie. Er valt steeds moeilijk te voorspellen wanneer er een nieuwe editie tevoorschijn komt. Dit is met name sterk gebonden aan het vinden van een geschikte locatie. Elke Nacht van de Powezie is nu eenmaal heel situationeel. Elk genre hoort op één of andere wijze tot zijn recht te komen. En als wij het scala bekijken van de hedendaagse poëzie, dan zien wij meteen hoe ruim deze is: Klassieke voordrachten domineren al lang niet meer de scène. Sinds de jaren '50, is er beduidend meer ruimte gekomen voor meer experimentele vormen, ook hier in Vlaanderen.
Het zou ons te ver leiden, indien wij de oorsprong van deze diverse vormen zouden overlopen. Duidelijk is evenwel dat elke Nacht van de Powezie tot op heden een hartelijk buitenbeentje is gebleken in het poëtische landschap der Lage Landen. Dadaïstisch, licht chaotisch en situationeel van inslag, creëren we met elke Nacht een soort van totaal-happening die haar gelijke niet kent in het traditionele poëtische (en mogelijk zelfs artistieke) circuit. Dat is echter voer voor geschiedkundigen. Wat wel heel belangrijk is, is dat wij zowel hiphop als singersongwriters, zowel klassieke voordracht als theatermakers, zowel actionpainters als experimentele gezelschappen verwelkomen. |
POWETRY NIGHTSSince seven years now, together with many kind volunteers we organise Nights of Powetry. It is not always so easy to predict when a new edition will be organised. Particularly, since this is strongly bound to the finding of a suitable location. Every Night of Powetry is very situational. Each genre of poetry asks for a different approach in order to be fully appreciated. And if we view the range of contemporary poetry, we see immediately how broad this spectrum is: Classical lectures no longer dominate the scene. Since the 50s, there is significantly more space for more experimental forms, also here in the region of Flanders.
It would lead us too far, if we were to review the origin of these various forms of poetry. Clearly, however, is that every Night of Powetry to date has shown and proven to be a friendly outsider in the poetic landscape of the Lowlands. Dadaïstic, slightly chaotic and situational by nature, with every new Night we create a kind of total and universal happening that is unparalleled in the traditional poetic (and possibly even artistic) circuit. But that is at it's best food for historians. However, what truly is important, is that we welcome hip-hop as wel as singersongwriters, classical lectures as well as theater, action painters as well as experimental groups. |

DUURZAME KWALITEITHet feit dat wij laagdrempelig te werk gaan, wil zeggen dat iedereen die wil, kan en mag deelnemen. Ook mensen dus die voor een eerste keer op een podium staan. Een waardevol aspect van onze hele opzet, is namelijk dat meer bekende namen naast totaal ongekende mensen en gezelschappen hun ding kunnen en mogen komen doen. Toch, willen wij gaarne de mensen aanmoedigen zo kwaliteitsvol mogelijk aan de slag te gaan. Enerzijds, hebben we hiervoor al een bijzonder traject afgelegd. Door stevig door te werken, hebben we ondertussen een reputatie opgebouwd die vanzelf uitnodigt tot kwalitatieve voordracht. Anderzijds, nodigen wij bewust talentscouts uit om alle deelnemers extra aan te moedigen.
Net als de derde editie, zal deze vierde editie plaatsvinden in 't Klooster te Antwerpen. 't Klooster is gelegen in de Ploegstraat, achteraan Antwerpen Centraal en de Zoo. Indien je even de moeite neemt op deze site te grasduinen, dan zal je merken dat dit een hoogst gezellige, evenals praktische locatie is. Onze openlijk sociale ingesteldheid, heeft ons oog op deze plek doen vallen. Behoudens om haar maandelijkse voedsel-bedeling voor 3000 mensen, twee wekelijkse volkskeukens, een actieve weggeefwinkel, een goed draaiend fietsen-atelier, werkruimte voor zowel beeldende als muzikale artiesten, geniet deze plek onze voorkeur vanuit haar uitnodigende en open energie. |
SUSTAINABLE QUALITYThe fact that we insist upon a very social treshold, implies that everyone who wants to, can and may participate. So, also people that are first-timers on stage are encouraged to participate. A valuable aspect of our whole approach, is that totally unknown people and companies can do their and may do their thing beside better-known names. Still, we like to inspire people to bring the highest possible quality within their own reach. Concerning this matter, we luckely have already proven successful in the recent past. Through hard work, we have now built a reputation that naturally invites qualitative nomination. On the other hand, we consciously invite talent scouts from as well publishing agencies as the artistic world. Thus, giving all participants extra encouraging opportunities.
Like the third edition, this fourth edition will take place in 't Klooster Antwerp. 't Klooster is located in the Ploegstraat, behind Antwerp Central Station and the Zoo. If you just take some relaxing time to browse on this site, you will notice that this old monastry is a very cozy, as well as a convenient location. Our overt social attitude, has almost naturally driven us to this specific location. Except for its monthly free food distribution for 3,000 people, it's 2 weekly free kitchens, it's give-away-shop, it's well runed bike-workshop, and it's workspaces for both visual and musical artists, this place clearly enjoys our preference due to its open and inviting energy. |

DANKBAARHEID IS EEN ZEGENDaarmee, zijn we aanbeland bij het thema van deze vierde editie, met name Creatieve Energie. Wij bezien deze in de meest ruime zin van het woord. Dit wil zeggen: zowel creatieve energie op artistiek poëtische frequentie, als op eerder duurzaam, ecologisch, alchemistisch en spiritueel nivo. Deelnemers blijven edoch geheel vrij in de inhoudelijke keuze van hun voordrachten. Wij verzoeken wel dat mensen hun best doen de aangegeven thematiek in hun optredens te verwerken, al was het maar onder de vorm van 1 gedicht dat het thema Creatieve Energie raakt op de ene of andere wijze. Ook dit doen we met een helder doel voor ogen; We staan met name aan de vooravond van een energetische (r)evolutie zoals we er nog geen gekend hebben in de menselijke geschiedenis. Wij willen hier bewust aan bijdragen.
Tot slot van deze inleidende woorden, wensen wij als organisatie te benadrukken dat wij immens dankbaar zijn voor alle vrijwilligers en organisaties die hier door de jaren heen aan hebben bijgedragen: zowel dichters als muzikanten, zowel Boekenstad als Pipelines vzw, zowel district Antwerpen als Koevoet vzw, zowel de verenigde twaletmadammen als toogmedewerkers. Het is ons onmogelijk in deze tekst iedereen afzonderlijk te vermelden. Hiervoor, nodigen wij U waarde lezer uit deze toch wel boeiende site verder te verkennen. Mocht U zelf vrijwillig willen meewerken aan dit geheel, neem dan even gerust contact met ons op. Meer info vind je op één van de andere pagina's. AN ATTITUDE OF GRATITUDEThus, we have arrive at the theme of this fourth edition, particularly: Creative Energy. We try to look at this in the broadest sense of the words. That is, as well creative energy on an artistic poetic frequency, as well as on a more sustainable, ecological, alchemical and spiritual level. Participants however remain entirely free to choose the substance of their performances. We only gently ask that people do their best to integrate the stated theme(s) in their performances: if only in the form of a poem that touches on the theme of Creative Energy one way or another. This should be relatively easy to handle for such creative minds. We also do this with a very clear goal ahead; Since we are on the eve of an energetic (r)evolution as never seen before in human history, we would like to contribute consciously to this wonderful happening and era.
To conclude these introductory words, as an organization we wish to emphasize the fact that we are immensely grateful to all volunteers and organizations who through the years have contributed to the building of this unique happening: both poets and musicians, both Antwerp Literature Town and associations like Pipelines, or Crowbar, as well as district Antwerp, as well the united toilet ladies as the bar staff. It is quite impossible to mention everyone separately in these few introductory lines. Therefore, we invite you dear reader to further explore this (to our opinion) very interesting site. You will encounter some nice invitations, especially if you are not known to Antwerp. If you yourself are willing to be part of this whole, please feel free to contact us.
